It’s official: Michelisz continues at Hyundai

Norbert Michelisz will start his title-defending journey with Hyundai in WTCR, as expected. It is now official that the Hungarian racer continues to drive a Hyundai i30 N TCR.
Hyundai will have four drivers this season. Experienced Gabriele Tarquini will keep being Michelisz’s teammate, they will start their third season together, while Luca Engstler and Nicky Catsburg will form the other team.
‘I can work excellently with BRC team and Gabriele, who is a wonderful teammate proved by the results in the past two years, too’ Norbert Michelisz said. ‘2020 will be a new challenge for us, with new circuits and new tyres that put extra task on everyone. I am sure that our rivals are working hard to get ready for the new season, but we do the same. I am the title-holder, and I know that we can be even faster in 2020.’
Michelisz had two tests up to now, but in the last few weeks he was training at home, mostly with running outdoor. Certainly, we asked him about his feelings on cancellation of the race at the Hungaroring, and he confirmed that this was very painful for him.
‘I was looking forward to racing in front of the Hungarian fans as a title-holder, but to tell you the truth, I already felt before the announcement that cancellation had been in the air’ Michelisz said. ‘It hurts me especially a lot that there was no chance to find an alternative date later in the calendar. I just realised hearing the announcement how important and natural was for me the race at the Hungaroring. I have taken it granted since 2011. I understand that we have no impact on these decisions, and now I try to focus on preparing for the upcoming season as well as I can, whenever it starts.’
