The first electric touring car of Hyundai was tested at the Hungaroring

Hyundai Motorsport started to test its Veloster N ETCR electric racing car, which is the first electric racing car project of the factory. They tested the state-of-the-art rear-wheel-drive car for two days without any technical problems on the circuit of Mogyoród, where their ‘normal’ racing cars participated in WTCR and TCR races, therefore they had a basis of comparison.
According the press release of Hyundai the engineers worked mostly on tuning the power and the rocker arm suspensions, furthermore on maximising the performance of the electric engine built in the. The technical circuit fitted very well for the purpose. Certainly, they used the experiences gained in the Touring Car World Cup and TCR, and they were very important, because these electric cars will enter the races next year. The Hungarian test was only the beginning, the programme will soon continue, as all parts of the car should be scrutinized. Andrea Adamo, Team Principal of Hyundai Motorsport said the following: ‘The first test of any projects is a milestone, but in case of Hyundai Veloster N ETCR it is even more important. This is our first electric racing car, the first rear-wheel-drive car with central engine. We have already proved by i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR that we are capable of building a very strong touring car, and we are ready to learn before the 2020 season starts. The upcoming months will be very busy: we must work on the chassis and on how to use the engine. We have lots of tests to do, but I believe that our engineers can build another winning car.’
