New regulations to be delayed until 2022

2020. March 20. 15:53

As expected, Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has decided to delay the introduction of the new regulations in Formula 1 by a year to 2022. The teams unanimously agreed to do it at a conference call a day earlier. It means that they will use this year’s cars until the end of next year, the 2020 chassis will remain for another season, with the potential freezing of further components for cost-effectiveness to be discussed in due course.

These measures were necessary to be taken, because, whenever this year’s Formula 1 season starts, the cancelled and postponed races as well as the inevitable economic crisis will put huge financial burden on the teams. So, discussions remain ongoing between the FIA, Formula 1 and all teams regarding further ways to ease the current difficult situation.

FIA World Council has accepted the modification of 2020 F1 sporting regulation regarding the summer shutdown. Since making up the postponed races might happen in August, the factory shutdown was brought forward to March and April, and it was extended from 14 to 21 days.
